MOESC Board of Governors Meet, Discuss Facilities, Donations

On November 18th, the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center Board of Governors met for their monthly meeting. Members heard a facilities update from Steve Earnest, Mid-Ohio ESC’s Executive Director, among other business items.

The presentation given by Earnest centered on updates to the Mid-Ohio Conference Center, Print Shop, and the Mid-Ohio ESC facilities. Possible future usages of the facility along with recommended upgrades were a focus of the presentation and discussion. Among the topics discussed were:

  • A new Mid-Ohio 4th Street sign replacement as the current sign is in disrepair.
  • Possible renovation to extend the life of the facilities roof.
  • Future tenant arrangement and the requisite leasehold improvements.
  • A review of business operations that have been adversely affected during the pandemic.

The Board also approved the donation of books to F.I.R.S.T. School from Board President Richard Prater and his wife and fellow Board Member, Margaret Prater. F.I.R.S.T. School Principal Vanessa Wagner said the Praters have done a lot for the students over the years. “Our students love to read and utilize the library frequently,” she said. “The Praters have donated a lot of high-interest books for the kids and have set an example encouraging others to donate to our program as well. In addition, they have always supported our Career Day, where we bring in members of the community to speak to the students about various jobs and local businesses. Their support has meant a great deal to the teachers at F.I.R.S.T. School.”

Abraxas Principal Shelly Patrick thanked the Praters for their contributions to her students as well. “They continually support our schools in so many ways, and most recently they provided Abraxas School of Ohio with a certificate to use at Holly's Book Rack to purchase books for our students. The students are learning to love to read, and the support the Praters provide allows us the opportunity to give our students a variety of reading choices that then makes reading fun for them and a lifelong activity.”

Mid-Ohio ESC Superintendent Kevin D. Kimmel echoed the sentiments. “I would like to express my gratitude for Mr. and Mrs. Prater’s ongoing support for F.I.R.S.T. and Abraxas Schools and their generosity is appreciated by the students and staff.”
