Upcoming Professional Development from Student Services
Launch the media gallery 1 playerThe Department of Student Services at Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center has numerous professional development programs open for registration in March.
The next round of network meetings are open for registration. These meetings are designed to provide a combination of professional learning, ODE updates, networking and collaborative problem-solving. The dates and times for each meeting are as follows:
- Related Service Providers - March 23rd, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. (VIRTUAL ONLY)
- School Psychologists - March 23rd, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. (VIRTUAL ONLY)
- Special Education Coordinators - March 25th, 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (IN-PERSON or VIRTUAL)
Interested participants can register at http://www.moesc.net/register. Members of client districts can attend for free, while non-client participants will have a $25 fee. Mid-Ohio ESC will be hosting Crisis Prevention Institute, or CPI, training. The initial CPI course will be held March 31st from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., while the refresher CPI training will be held March 10th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A special CPI training with a focus on helping individuals with autism will be held March 3rd from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. These are in-person training sessions that will be held at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center, 890 W. 4th Street in Mansfield.
Participants in the initial training should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes. When the physical restraint portion of the class is taught and practiced, you will be asked to remove scarves, ties, and any jewelry that could scratch.In addition to successfully demonstrating the application of physical intervention skills, individuals will be required to pass a post-test prior to being certified.
Physical holds are not practiced by participants in the refresher course but rather reviewed visually through demonstrations by the instructor.
The CPI Autism training includes 8 additional strategies to consider when working with children on the autism spectrum. These strategies embed a spirit of empathy, dignity, and respect.CPI techniques can be used safely with a wide variety of people, including those on the autism spectrum. Participants in the autism training should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes and be prepared to remove any scarves, ties or jewelry that could scratch.
Interested participants for any of the CPI courses may sign up at MOESC website, www.moesc.net/register. Client/Member cost for any of the courses is $60.00, while non-client cost is $75.00.
Mid-Ohio ESC is also accepting registrations for the second series about Restorative Practices. There are four sessions in this series: Monday, March 21, Monday, April 11, Monday, April 25 and Tuesday, April 26. All sessions will take place at Mid-Ohio ESC, 890 W. Fourth St., Mansfield from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch will be on your own. These sessions will be facilitated by Ang Fetter, Mid-Ohio ESC Educational Consultant and an International Institute for Restorative Practice (IIRP) trained instructor.
The series costs $60 to attend for participants from member districts and $260 for non-member participants. Registration can be completed online at http://www.moesc.net/register.
