MOESC Hosting Navigating Federal Programs & CCIP Training

Navigating Ohio Department of Education (ODE) guidance and regulations for participating in federal grants and programming can be complex for new and seasoned administrators alike. After some changes to the grant’s online application system, districts, community schools and other educational organization administrators have expressed a desire for additional training. In response to this, Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center is hosting Ron Stewart with his training Navigating Federal Programs & CCIP on January 13, 2021 for two sessions. The first will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and the second at 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

CCIP stands for Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan and is a unified grants application and verification system from ODE that consists of two parts: the Planning Tool and the Funding Application. The Planning Tool contains the goals, strategies, action steps and district goal amounts for all grants in the CCIP. The Funding Application contains the budget, budget details, nonpublic services and other related pages.

Jen Crum, Mid-Ohio ESC Director of Student Services, said this training is applicable to administrators within public schools who receive federal funding and private non-public schools. “Many new education administrators require a thorough understanding of federal education regulations so they can comply with federal education laws. Even seasoned administrators have found benefit in this training as there are often regulations that apply to new situations within districts.” She said they want administrators to walk away being able to answer these questions:

  • Do I fully understand the process for managing federal grants?
  • Am I comfortable navigating the CCIP?
  • Do I understand how to serve non-public schools in my district locations and federal grant requirements?

Presenter Ron Stewart has been an active participant and leader in the educational enterprise since 1969. He has served as a teacher, principal, and central office administrator. He provided leadership for the implementation of No Child Left Behind while final guidance was being debated. He also served as a consultant and Associate Director of Federal Programs with the Ohio Department of Education as well as with the Council of Great City Schools.

Those interested can register at www.moesc.net/register. The training is free and will take place at Mid-Ohio Conference Center, 890 West Fourth Street in Mansfield. However, if COVID conditions at that time dictate, the training will be held by Zoom conference. Participants will be notified by email of change.
