Resident Educator Trainings To Be Held September 22nd

Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center is proud to announce virtual sessions of Ohio Resident Educator Training on September 22nd. From 8 to 9 a.m., there will be a RESA 101 session. The next session will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for first year Resident Educators (REs). The last session will be from noon to 2 p.m. for third year REs. All trainings will be conducted by ODE Resident Educator Credentialed Trainers Linda Williams and Lisa Kuhar.

RESA 101 will assist new and current resident educators in understanding the Resident Educator Program established by the Ohio Department of Education in 2011. Resident Educator is a comprehensive, four-year initiative to assist beginning teachers with mentoring and professional development. The RESA program is designed to improve teacher retention, enhance teacher quality, and result in student achievement.

For the first year session, this interactive training is designed to assist new educators in navigating the Resident Educator’s program requirements. The training will include the background of the program, teacher responsibilities, mentor expectations, and coordinator responsibilities. REs are strongly encouraged to invite their mentors and/or RESA coordinator to attend the training free of charge. This training will provide an opportunity for the RE and the mentor to work together and gain a deeper understanding of the RESA program. First year REs are encouraged to attend the third year session to learn more about the assessment process.

In the Year Three session, REs will be assisted in navigating the Resident Educator’s assessment requirements. The assessment is summative in nature and consists of one Lesson Reflection that requires resident educators to demonstrate reflection and decision making regarding their instructional practices. Once again, REs are strongly encouraged to invite their mentors and/or RESA coordinator to attend the training free of charge. This training will provide an opportunity for the RE and the mentor to work together on planning and preparing for the assessment.

Each session costs $75 to attend, except RESA 101, which is free. Registration can be completed online at http://www.moesc.net/register. For more information about the training, contact Dr. Mark Burke at (419) 774-5520 or email him at burke.mark@moesc.net.
