Mary Dixon Retires from MOESC Board of Governors

Pictured (L to R) is Mid-Ohio ESC Board of Governors Vice President Doug Theaker, Board member Mary Dixon, and Board President Richard Prater.

The meeting of Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center’s Board of Governors on Wednesday, December 15th, was a particularly poignant one as Mary Dixon, a member of the board for 12 years, served in her last meeting before her retirement.

The other board members offered their well wishes and presented Mrs. Dixon with an engraved clock. Board President Richard Prater said Mrs. Dixon has served with distinction. "As a retired teacher, board member and past president, she knew the challenges faced by the students and staff alike in our area schools and worked for 12 years to assure delivery of the highest quality services to our districts. Mary also served this area's students and educators as one of Mid-Ohio's appointees to the Pioneer Career and Technology Center. Needless to say, we will miss her leadership and her friendship."

Mid-Ohio ESC Superintendent Kevin D. Kimmel also offered his thanks. “As Board president, Mary led Mid-Ohio ESC through a turbulent transition that resulted in a major overhaul of the organization with a laser focus on serving our districts. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity that she and the Mid-Ohio ESC Board of Governors gave to me three years ago to become the Superintendent.”

Treasurer Lorraine Earnest said Mrs. Dixon’s commitment was unmatched. “Mary served the students of Richland, Morrow, and Crawford Counties with a high degree of integrity, passion and caring. She will be greatly missed.”

Members also heard a facilities update from Steve Earnest, Mid-Ohio ESC’s Executive Director of Business and Innovation. The presentation given by Earnest focused on the business operations of the ESC.  The operational areas discussed were:

  • Mid-Ohio Conference Center - utilization and future capital improvements; as well as the financial impact of the pandemic has had on the Center
  • Facility - utilization and capital improvements
  • Mid-Ohio Print Shop - financial performance and staffing
  • Fingerprinting Services - financial performance
  • Community School Sponsorship – GOAL Digital Academy and Tomorrow Center

In other business, Richard Prater will serve as the President Pro Tempore and Doug Theaker as the back up for the January 19th organizational meeting which will start at 12 noon with the January regular meeting to follow.
