MOESC Hosts Report Card Forensics Session

Report cards from the Ohio Department of Education are designed to give parents, communities, educators and policymakers information about the performance of districts and schools — to celebrate achievement and success and identify areas for improvement. The information provides clear and easily available reporting on student performance, drives local conversations on school improvement and identifies schools to receive supports for getting better. The goal is to ensure all Ohio students receive an excellent education that can lead to success in life, careers and future learning.

The Ohio General Assembly amended Ohio’s accountability law in the summer of 2021. Schools and districts now receive star ratings for five components. The report cards for the 2021-2022 school year do not include an overall rating, but one will be added when the 2023 report cards are released in the fall of that year. Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center will be hosting an opportunity to dive deeper into the new report card on December 9th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Steve Short from State Support Team 7 will be taking the participants through the components of the state report card and explain how Stars are earned in each component. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of the nuances of each component and the locations in the Secure Data Center where they can access the report card data. This should help the participants to provide better support for their building and teaching staff. There will be time set aside after lunch when teams and individuals can work independently and receive some one-on-one support as needed.

It is suggested that districts bring a team to this in-service as there will be the opportunity to work with the district’s own data, but individuals are welcome. Participants should bring a charged computer and the ability to get into their SAFE (OH-ID) account in order to access the Reports Portal and the District or building’s Secure Data Center.

Interested participants can register here. The session is free for client districts, and the fee for non-client districts is $100. For more information, please email Dr. Mark Burke at burke.mark@moesc.net.
