MOESC Board of Governors Meet

On Wednesday, November 17th, the Board of Governors for Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center met for their monthly meeting. Lynn Meister, Director of Teaching and Learning, gave a presentation updating the Board the work of her department and Thanksgiving holiday hours were announced..

Meister introduced the newest Teaching and Learning/Gifted Team members to the Board: Jacqueline Robbeloth, Ally Schleichert, and Lisa Walter. Meister said the Teaching and Learning department experienced a significant increase in services from the 2020/2021 school year to the 2021/2022 school year. In just one year, contracts for services have more than doubled, moving from five districts last year to over 10 districts this school year. In addition, the team’s supports and services have become more diversified, focusing on state-supported and district-specific needs in Mathematics, English/Language Arts, and explicit instruction.

Meister reviewed highlights of the Gifted Team’s critical work providing direct service to districts, including the addition of a new district, online professional development, book studies, and numerous student events. The team offers virtual book studies on gifted topics during the school year. Because of their popularity, the fall and winter book studies will register more than 100 participants. Gifted student events range from Academic Challenge for grades 4 – 12 to county Spelling Bees and “Artapolooza” in early April, an exhibition of students’ art from three counties.

Meister’s final guest was Lisa Cook, Director of the Comprehensive Literacy State Development grant. She explained the grant’s latest project titled “Launching Into Literacy” for in-depth family engagement at the elementary school level. Each child’s family will receive a literacy book bag with books and parent-friendly activities. The book bag is replenished each month throughout the school year with new books and family engagement ideas.
